MEFC Church Profile

The Montvale Evangelical Free Church is located about twenty-five miles northwest of New York City in beautiful northern Bergen County. The church has a membership of approximately 200 with an average Sunday morning attendance of 250. The current annual budget is around $600,000. We are situated on eight acres of land in a bedroom community outside of New York City and most of our congregation lives in the surrounding communities in both New York and New Jersey.

Our church family is predominantly middle class with a wide range of careers. There is some ethnic diversity.

Our ministries include Sunday Bible School for all ages, adult choir, youth ministries for junior and senior high, women’s ministries (Body & Soul, RefresHer, Deaconesses and women’s retreat), New Beginnings (support group), men’s ministries (Men’s Breakfast, Dinners, and Fall Retreat), and small groups. We have one worship service and Sunday school on Sunday morning.

A Board of Elders, elected by the congregation, is responsible for the leadership of our members. These Elders each serve on a commission representing one given arena of ministry within the church: Worship, Adult, Deacons, Deaconesses, Trustees (Facilities and Finance), Children’s, Youth, and Missions.

Our sanctuary seats 450 people. We utilize approximately 18 areas within our total facility for Christian Education. We have a large Fellowship Hall with a fully-equipped kitchen and can serve between 180-200 people. Our youth utilize a very large room known as the Fireside Room. Our office consists of a large working area used by the office manager and technical administrator, three private offices, and a conference room/library. For our church ministries we own two 12-passengers vans. On our existing eight acres of land are two beautiful parsonages, a historic farmhouse, and a large hillside which is used for outreach events.
